As we try to acclimate to our new reality during Covid-19, there’s no denying that our typical routines are not so typical anymore. Even washing my hands has been extremely implemented into my routine (I’m honestly over washing at this point, but I rather be safe than sorry). According to the CDC, hand washing is one of the most important ways to protect yourself from getting sick and preventing the spread of the virus.
Even though I’m not going outside (except for grocery runs) I can’t stop going to the sink and overdoing it with the soap. It doesn’t help that I have pretty bad eczema on some of my fingers, which have been brutally itchy and irritated. And on top of that my hands are dry AF, red, bumpy, and just plain gross. In between hand washing these are the products I use to soothe and treat.
L’Occitane Shea One-Minute Hand Scrub
With a scent similarly to that iconic baby lotion, this gentle scrub uses crushed walnut shell to rid hands of any dead skin. Shea butter and apricot oil then help soothe and hydrate. I love this scrub because is super easy to use. I like to apply it on dry hands first, scrub for a few seconds, and then add water to activate the ingredients.
Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Hand Cream
I never knew how much my skin would love glycerin. First of all, can we make this hand cream in a bigger size? Better yet, can we make it in a full body version? This is the best hand cream I’ve tried. Listen, I hardly apply lotion on my hands because my sweaty palms hate the feeling. This cream though absorbs so well that afterwards it doesn’t feel like I have anything on. Moisturized skin is all I feel. And it helps keep the eczema on my hands from flaring up.
Vaseline
You honestly can’t go wrong with this classic staple. I put this everywhere. Wherever I’m dry, irritated, itchy. It really does help. This is an occlusive so it’s best to apply after you’ve already put on another cream or lotion. Occlusives seal in the moisture meaning water won’t escape and leave you dry. They also prevent irritants and allergens from entering the skin. Double whammy!
Dr. Hauschka Neem Nail & Cuticle Oil
This is my OG nail oil. I love how hydrating it is! My nails have been super brittle and dry as well so this really helps. A little goes a long way with this oil. Just a dab can cover two or three nails. Any extra, I massage throughout my hands.
How are you keeping your hands and nails hydrated during this pandemic?
