Working at a magazine is hard work but it definitely comes with some perks. Beauty sales are one of those perks. Most magazines hold an annual beauty sale whenever the beauty closet gets too crazy with beauty products. A couple of weeks ago I went to my second magazine beauty sale and got some cool stuff. Keep reading to see what I picked up:
Kora Organics Heart Chakra Essence
This is my first product from model Miranda Kerr’s beauty line Kora Organics. This is not something that I would typically be interested in picking up but let’s face it, was I going to get it this cheap somewhere else? The essence is made up of certified organic oils like rose otto, sandalwood, jojoba, and ylang ylang. The smell is very strong but once you rub it on your pulse points you feel energized. I definitely want to try more products from this organic line.
Avene Cold Cream
Avene is definitely one of my favorite French brands. I’m obsessed with their Thermal Spring Water (you can see my post about it here), so I was excited to pick this baby up. This cold cream is beneficial in aiding dry, irritated skin. I wish I had this product during the beginning of winter. I have not used it yet because the weather here in New York has been getting a little warmer, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the weather drops again. If so I’ll use it and get back to you with a review.
Dr. Hauschka Soothing Mask
Dr. Hauschka is a brand that I want to keep trying out. I love that they only use natural but effective ingredients to help your skin. This mask helps sensitive skin by calming down redness with shea and coconut oils as well as anthyllis. After I removed this mask my skin felt so soft. There’s just something about this brand that makes it feel luxe. Whenever I use this brand I know I’m getting the best quality.
Sephora Sleeping Masks in Ginseng and Rose
Sephora masks are all the rage these days. These mini masks are applied to your face, neck, and around the eyes before going to bed and allowing them to work their magic overnight. Ginseng helps with toning and firming, and Rose helps to moisturize and brighten. I have yet to try these but I’m so excited to do so. During the sale these masks were just on top of the table untouched. Didn’t anyone spot them? I’m glad I grabbed them before anyone else.
Yes to Baby Naturals Fragrance Free Wipes
Okay so during a beauty sale you sometimes don’t think you just take. Case in point: these baby wipes. In my defense I really thought they were makeup remover wipes. I even kept using them a couple of times to take off my makeup without yet realizing what they were really for. These baby wipes are gentle — gentle enough that they didn’t irritate my skin when I used them on my face. These wipes are made up of apricot, banana, and carrot extracts to cleanse a baby’s skin.
100% Pure Organic Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream *Not Pictured
This coffee bean eye cream was one of the products I was really excited to pick up. It’s suppose to reduce the appearance of puffy eyes and dark circles. I’ve been using this product before applying my makeup and I must say that I have less puffiness around the eyes. But what I like the most about this is that it keeps my delicate eye area moisturized. As for dark circles I haven’t seen much of a change.

It’s that time of the year again where magazines around the globe publish their biggest issue of the year — the September issue. Pages are filled with fall trends and plenty of ads marketing new products. And let’s not forget the cover star. I love seeing how glam the covers can be. Take a look below at my favorites from this year:
Make sure to check my favorite September covers from last year! Which one is your favorite?
As you all know I am a huge magazine reader/collector. I’m subscribed to a few magazines but to be honest I mostly go to my nearest Target or Duane Reade and buy new issues from the newsstand. I get so excited when new covers are revealed especially when the cover star is someone that I think is awesome. Take a look below at some cool ladies that are gracing the cover of this year’s April issues:
Shailene Woodley on the cover of Glamour UK
. Can’t wait to see her in the new movie “Insurgent” this month. She is also one of my favorite Top Shelves from Into the Gloss
. Check out her beauty confessions here
One of my favorite actresses, Cameron Diaz, on the cover of Cosmopolitan UK. This cover is giving me serious spring vibes. Maybe it’s because of the fruity smoothie she’s sipping on. Am I the only one who spent this past weekend watching Cameron Diaz movies? I watched “The Other Woman” and “Sex Tape.” Love her!
The amazing Tatiana Maslany on the cover of Canada’s Flare mag. If you are not watching BBC’s “Orphan Black” then you are completely missing out. Maslany plays dozens of characters on the show and does an excellent job doing it. I think this may be her first major cover. I can’t wait for season three of Orphan Black! Check out the preview here.
My childhood role model Hilary Duff on the cover of Cosmopolitan
. Words cannot express how much I admire her. I remember when her first album “Metamorphosis” was released and how much I begged my dad to buy it for me. When he finally bought it for me the CD would play in my CD player nonstop. I’m so excited to hear more new music from her. Listen to her latest single “All About You” here
What issues are you looking forward to picking up?
While reading my December issue of Glamour I was so excited to see Lisa Kudrow reveal her Dos and Don’ts. My love for Lisa began while watching Friends — my favorite TV show. I love Phoebe’s quirkiness and how she never takes herself too seriously. (Cue the episode when she jogs with Rachel). I think there is a little bit of a Phoebe in all of us. I love what she says about not trying Botox and her friendship with Courtney Cox and Jennifer Aniston.
I am also loving Lisa in HBO’s The Comeback. I remember when this show premiered ten years ago and thinking that a show like this had never been done before. But now the show is back and Valerie Cherish is causing mayhem in Hollywood. Can’t wait to see what kind of situations she gets herself into in this season. Take a look at Lisa in Glamour above.
Are you watching The Comeback?
As a self-proclaimed magazine aficionado the best magazine issue is of course the September issue. This issue in particular is jam-packed with content especially in the fashion section. Fall fashion, anyone? Since I do collect magazines (this is the only weird thing I collect — honest) I’ve read PLENTY of September issues. You would think that it would be hard to choose a favorite but for me is actually pretty easy to choose.
I remember when I got the September 2006 issue of Teen Vogue
. I was so excited when I got this issue! At first glance and touch I could tell that it was thick and full of pages — just the way I like it. Mischa Barton was on the cover, which I think was during the time she was abruptly killed off the teenage drama The O.C. Not only did the cover scream Fall but it also clearly stated just how BIG this issue really was. The words “Our Biggest Issue EVER!” was adorned on the front and once I started to read it I was completely mesmerized.
I can’t wait to get my hands on this year’s September issues! I hope all of them are stacked with pages — even if those pages are mostly ads. Take a look at which ones I’ll be picking up soon:
